This course will provide an overview of the phonological backgrounds of Spanish-speaking children. Dialectal considerations and phonological patterns of typically developing children and children with highly unintelligible speech will be discussed. Additional topics will include information related to assessment, treatment, and school-based issues.

Very thorough! WE occasionally have Spanish language students here in Western SD but in NE I had lots of youngsters. We now have a bilingual therapist on staff so if needed, I am counting on her being able to help! In the past, I have used translators, but found it requires quite a bit of training with the translator to make sure they don't give the answer to the child. It has also helped to have information about dialectic uniquenesses, such as when asking about ice cream on the Spanish language PLS, a different Spanish word was used than the one on the test, so that had to be modified and documented when the test was administered. Raul did a great job of providing differences.
