Pearson's EBP Briefs: Comparing Evidence-Based Interventions for Toddlers with Autism Spectrum DisordersCourse: #7711 1 Hour
Pearson's EBP Briefs are case-based courses designed to assist with everyday decision-making in clinical practice. This case will examine the clinical question, “Would a minimally verbal toddler with ASD benefit more from implementation of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) or Pivotal Response Training (PRT) to increase communication initiations of his wants/needs?” The related literature search and analysis, along with the resultant clinical decision and application to clinical practice, will also be discussed. A relevant assessment tool for this case is the Sensory Profile 2.

Allison Ellawadi, PhD, CCC-SLP
Allison, an assistant professor at the Ohio State University, received her M.S. from New York Medical College and her PhD from the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on language development in individuals with autism spectrum disorders. She has presented her work at national and international conferences.
