Pearson's EBP Briefs are case-based courses designed to assist with everyday decision-making in clinical practice. This case will examine the clinical question, “Do students with language disorders and those who have low language skills benefit more from classroom-based instruction on narratives or from instruction outside of the classroom to improve comprehension of and retelling of narratives?” The related literature search and analysis, along with the resultant clinical decision and application to clinical practice, will also be discussed. A relevant assessment tool for this case is the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals – 5th Edition (CELF-5).

Jayne Brandel currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Fort Hays State University. Research and teaching interests include the efficacy of varying service delivery models to improve the language skills of school-age students with disabilities and the development of oral and written narrative and expository language for students with and without language disabilities.
