It dispelled some myths that have been perpetuated since the 60's and reinforced my personal practice of interactive reading, asking the child lots of questions and utilizing wait time for them to respond.

This course is excellent, informative, and frightening at the same time. I've encountered many children that don't have a single book in their homes and their parents never read to them. I find it alarming that there are so many families that don't read to or teach their children even basics, such as the alphabet; they feel it's the school's job. So, where are these children headed in their education? What is the future for them if none of their literacy needs are met? How will they be able to study or attend college? This subject is well presented and thought provoking as presented by Ms. Kelman.
