Course Abstract

The presentation will address the purpose, history, and research upon which the GFTA-2 was developed and standardized. The many years of user feedback and research provided the base for the timely revisions that continue to make this test one of the most frequently used assessment procedures employed by speech-language pathologists (ASHA, 2005).

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will be able to describe the complexities and issues considered in the development of a test of articulation.
  • Participants will be able to discuss the purpose of the test, how to and when to administer it.
  • Participants will be able to describe and interpret the scores obtained on the component sections of the GFTA-2.
  • Participants will be able to list the benefits of the test and how to employ results in the intervention process.

It was interesting to hear about the evolution of the test, and to see the visuals showing the GFTA-2 in its present form. It is clear that many details have been carefully addressed in the creation of this test, which has truly stood the test of time as a diagnostic tool for SLPs.

Dr. Goldman did an excellent job of adhering to course objectives and handouts. He presented information in an upbeat manner. He is considered THE authority on articulation testing. He's very knowledgeable and does not assume the listener has significant prior knowledge regarding the topic

Dr. Ronald Goldman, Ph.D.

Dr. Goldman received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent his professional career as a professor at Tulane University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was active as a teacher, researcher, and administrator. He was published widely in a variety of professional journals and developed and published a number of widely used standardized tests and programs. He served ASHA as a vice president and as President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. He is also a recipient of the Honors of ASHA.
