Course: #5056Level: Intermediate 1 Hour 116 Reviews

Dr. Ludlow will review what is known about the effects of using electrical stimulation on the surface of the neck and how it affects swallowing in patients with dysphagia. She will then discuss the evidence to date on whether adding e-stim to a therapeutic regimen benefits patients’ recovery to a greater degree than traditional therapy alone and in which types of patients. Finally, recent research will be reviewed regarding the use of e-stim in the pediatric population and caveats concerning the use of smaller electrodes in these patients will be discussed with recommendations.
