I am an SLP in a school setting, the practices she recommends and therapy she recommends are not as relevant to my setting. The important piece that I wanted to get was how to dissect behavior from language disorder in order to treat those who need language intervention, not just behavior support.

This course provided SLP's with practical assessment measures (that we often use in our professional practice) to assess the social pragmatic needs of students with mental health issues. As so many of these assessments are readily available during testing, it was nice to see that an SLP can view a child's responses in a manner that assesses their social appropriateness, ability to problem solve, and ability to relate to the perspective of others.

Excellent organization and presentation of Pragmatic and Social Skills Assessments (formal and informal) for all children. I particularly appreciated the presenter's critique of commonly used formal social skills assessments and their strengths and weaknesses, and supplemental assessments to determine "hidden" deficits. It is an area that is not taught well in academic settings, but it crucial for serving children.
