This is Part 3 of a four-part series. It is estimated that approximately 80% of children with autism present with significant, generalized motor delays. This course describes how SLPs can integrate movement into their therapy sessions to treat the whole child while improving non-verbal and verbal communication skills.

This is Part 2 of a four-part series. It’s estimated that 25-30% of children with autism will never develop fluent speech. This course describes speech development, neurological issue that can interfere with it, and research-based strategies that can be implemented immediately to improve speech outcomes for clients on the autism spectrum.

This is Part 4 of a four-part series. Children with autism have stories to tell. This course describes the impact strong storytelling skills have on a child’s attention, executive functioning, and language abilities. How to use multimodal cues in the context of task-oriented movement activities and effective scaffolding of storytelling skills are addressed.

This is Part 1 of a four-part series. Pivotal foundations that should be addressed early in autism are described in this course. Specifically, building rapport based on the child’s unique interests, developing open channels of communication with parents, writing goals, and implementing Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) to empower children are discussed.

An introduction to Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care (PAC) is provided in this course. Knowledge and skills that can be integrated into daily interactions to promote quality of care and improved outcome for persons living with dementia are discussed. A disease progression classification model that focuses on skills and abilities a person still has is also described.

Evidence-based treatments for patients near the end-of-life are discussed in this course. Patients' goals nearing the end of life and ways to integrate communication techniques and strategies to address nutritional challenges effectively are described.

Most SLPs have had little or no education or training in counseling skills and rely mostly on their intuition and suggestions from colleagues. The importance of learning counseling skills, counseling approaches and techniques (including "microskills" used in client interactions), and how to use them with various patient/family member populations and work settings are discussed in this course.

The primary components of the visual system are described in this course. Visual strategies and exercises that can be used in the home, therapy, or classroom are discussed, including classroom accommodations to compensate for poor visual skills.

The use of shared book reading as a powerful tool for facilitating language and literacy, and the integration of yoga into this practice, are discussed in this course. Methods for implementing StoryBook Yoga, as well as its positive impacts on the brain and on the development of the whole child across domains are described.

Social-emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness are described in this course. The relationship of these skills to communication, and strategies for incorporating them into intervention for children in the schools, are discussed.
