Together we can help.
At SpeechEasy, we understand the frustration and anxiety that people who stutter face every day. We also understand that promising new treatment options may be received with alternating feelings of hope and skepticism by people who stutter and the clinicians who treat them. However, our hope is that after learning more about SpeechEasy, you will reach the same conclusion that many of your SLP colleagues across the country and thousands of those who stutter have already reached...that SpeechEasy fluency devices are a viable and effective treatment option for many people who stutter.
Our mission in creating the most advanced fluency devices in the world, is that we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity. We continue to learn from and collaborate with allied healthcare professionals to create devices that provide real therapeutic value. Like you, our mission is to provide our clients with tools that enable them speak more fluidly and allow them to experience the heightened sense of confidence, freedom, and self reliance that naturally follows from being able to communicate more effectively.
SpeechEasy.
SpeechEasy is a fluency-enhancing device that fits in or behind the ear inconspicuously and can help people who stutter to speak more fluently. Our devices work by emulating the "choral effect", a phenomenon which occurs when a person's stutter is dramatically reduced or even eliminated while speaking or singing in unison with others. SpeechEasy combines Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) and Frequency Altered Feedback (FAF), which create a slight delay and change in pitch, to digitally produce the choral effect.
SpeechEasy has proven successful for all types of people. However, the device is most effective for people with a basic understanding of their stuttering and who have completed, or are willing to complete, a comprehensive speech therapy program. To ensure optimal outcomes, client evaluations and fittings for SpeechEasy devices are only conducted by state-licensed, ASHA-certified SLPs who have completed an additional SpeechEasy certification program. We also offer a free, self-administered, online program for any speech language pathologist who is interested in providing follow-up patient therapy for those fitted with SpeechEasy devices.
We are ...
- Committed to the highest level of professional and clinical integrity. We maintain that SpeechEasy only be dispensed through state-licensed, ASHA-certified Speech Pathologists, who have also completed an additional SpeechEasy certification program.
- Up-front about the capabilities of our product. We constantly stress the need to manage expectations for everyone involved (clients, families, Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), etc), to help minimize building false hopes.
- Strong advocates of "therapy first", particularly among children.
- Firm believers that treatment success is both objective and subjective. While SLPs objectively document post treatment improvements, clients also have their own subjective definitions of success.
- Not a replacement for speech therapy. While there are SpeechEasy users who do not need additional therapy or follow-up, there are others who do. It has been found that therapy can help produce optimal results with the device.
- Committed to honoring the client's right of choice. We encourage people who stutter to be evaluated for SpeechEasy; however we never discourage clients from pursuing other treatment options. We encourage people who want help to seek it in any manner they find appropriate.
