This presentation describes, explains, and demonstrates how to teach 14 meta-linguistic spelling strategies. These 14 strategies enable students to integrate the phonological awareness, orthographic, morphological, and vocabulary knowledge and skill, and storage and retrieval of mental orthographic representations of words in long-term memory to enhance accuracy and fluency of reading and writing. Video-clips of students in one-on-one instruction and authentic writing scenarios are used to demonstrate each of the 14 meta-linguistic spelling strategies.
