Pam Marshalla discusses methods to help young children become more vocal, verbal, imitative and communicative. The material is based upon Jean Piaget’s four stages of imitation development and Pam’s 30+ years of clinical experience. Each stage is described, methods and procedures are explained, and expected outcomes are given.

Course Objectives
  • As a result of this Continuing Education Activity, readers will be able to name the four stages of imitation development.

  • As a result of this Continuing Education Activity, readers will be able to describe the dialogue capabilities of children within each stage.

  • As a result of this Continuing Education Activity, readers will be able to discuss how the stages of imitation development apply to children with apraxia.

  • As a result of this Continuing Education Activity, readers will be able to list a variety of methods and procedures that can be used to facilitate vocal development.

  • As a result of this Continuing Education Activity, readers will be able to write a goal for speech-language therapy with the stages of imitation in mind.
